IT Infrastructure Specialist - Linux

We are looking for an individual with excellent Linux skills to join our team of talented, dedicated and highly capable specialists developing IT infrastructure systems for the University of Southampton using your experience and knowledge of the following:

  • Linux Server (RHEL) (essential)
  • Web Services (Apache, Tomcat) (essential)
  • Scripting (Perl, Bash, Python) (essential) 
  • Additional skills in using one or more of the following technologies would be an advantageous:

    • Enterprise storage (SAN / NAS) design and delivery
    • VMware vSphere (or other server virtualisation platform)
    • Solaris or other UNIX

    Role Primary Responsibilities:

    • You will use your skills and experience to develop and implement Linux server systems, virtualisation and storage to support the University. 
    • Any experience in Linux desktops would be a great advantage.
    • Work with Project Managers, Support teams and Business Representatives to ensure the suitability of solutions

    • Has strong technical and requirement gathering skills
    • Can demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and prioritise tasks.
    • Has the confidence and ability to take on the role of technical lead on some projects.
    • Is a good relationship builder
